In Arie Des Zauberquadrat, composer and conductor Sir Louis Siciliano delivers a striking exploration of form, voice, and metaphysical symbolism. This concert aria—performed by the Mediterranean Countries Symphonic Orchestra and interpreted by soprano Ilaria Patassini—draws its structural and conceptual inspiration from the ancient tradition of magic squares, reimagined through the lens of MUMEx, the multidimensional compositional method developed by Siciliano himself.
The work stands as a vivid example of postmodern synthesis: its architecture unfolds with mathematical precision, yet the music remains emotionally charged and dramatically expressive. The vocal text—freely reinterpreted from the writings of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe—is transformed into a lyrical meditation that resonates with contemporary sensibilities while honoring its classical roots.
Siciliano’s orchestration combines intellectual rigor with visionary intuition. Harmonic structures oscillate between tonal memory and spectral color, while the rhythmic flow mirrors the sacred symmetries and permutations of the Zauberquadrat. Patassini delivers a performance of exceptional nuance and depth, her voice navigating the score with clarity, warmth and spiritual presence.
Released under FILM MUSIC RECORDS and distributed by MAGIC&UNIQUE GROUP LTD, Arie Des Zauberquadrat is available globally from April 26, 2025 on all major streaming platforms.
The cover image was taken in the vineyard of the Barone di Serramarrocco estate in Sicily, a place where Louis Siciliano often retreats to compose in solitude, surrounded by nature and silence.
